2:00 pm
hello, i'm kimberly guilfoyle and eric bolling, bob beckel, goeg gut feld and this is "the five." happy monday, everyone. at this point everyone knows the president lied to the american people when he promised you could keech your -- and -- keep your -- and your health care plan. one of the key obama care architects is saying, sure, you can keep your -- if you can afford it. >> it is a simple yes or no question. >> did he say if you like your -- you can -- your doctor, you can keep your doctor. >> yes. can you do that. this is a matter of choice. people will have a choice as to
2:01 pm
whether they want to pay a certain amount for a network or pay more for a broader network. >> the president guaranteed me i could keep my -- >> and if you want to, you could pay for. >> just when you thought the disease couldn't get any worse and a number of disturbing reports in the papers today. "the new york times," quote, on health exchanges, premiums may be low but other costs could be high. high deductibles worry sticker shock. and health plans will exclude top hospitals. just when you thought the news couldn't get worse. it, in fact, has. this is one in day we are getting all of this. >> the monday edition of facts for stubborn liberals, the first one being the harvard study, i think it came out thursday or friday saying for 18-25-year-olds, 60% said they
2:02 pm
are very unlikely to sign up for obama care and there is a problem. buried in the law, you go through deductibles -- by the first time we mentioned deductibles was on october 21st that was talk about soaring deductibles and now on the front page of the new york times and the wall street jurj. watch "the five." and in the law. if you are a 21-year-old making $30,000 and a 61-year-old making $30,000 a year, with the subsidies, the 21-year-old will pay $1635 a year premium, not deduct ill, $1635 and the 61-year-old will pay $867. is there a reason the 21-year-old pays almost two and a half times what the 61-year-old pays? it will drive young people away from obama care. they will not do it. >> they will run screaming like from a burning building, greg. how come you didn't have that
2:03 pm
line written down. >> when we were told the old plans were worse. the new plans are worse than the old plans. this is surprising to obama that this is so bad. but everything government touches becomes 10% as as before. it is a confidence removal machine. obama care is the taco bell of democracy. >> why are you talking about taco bell. >> you are stuck in one place for white a -- a while. >> no one can get into the bathroom around here. and dana, how do they clean up this message? if you are jay carney, are you crying with your blankie in the corner begging for your mom to help you. >> well here with go with another week of these type of problems. but the communications problems are deeper, i think they are policy problems.
2:04 pm
but he is honest, but four years late. if he had said that -- mic, i'm sorry, that is my mic. emanuel and the president, if he had said that during the campaign and honest about the decision, given all of that, understanding it all, we still think it is worth it, that would have been a better way -- then you don't have to clean up a communication problem. what he said, though, is americans are expected to read the fine print. you know when you ged your credit card -- you get your credit card bill and there is the fine print and nobody reads it, it all goes in the trash can. apparently he thinks americans should have read all of that, even though many people on the hill didn't even brother to read the bill before they -- both to read the bill before they passed it. this is exacerbated by the fact they have a fundmental policy
2:05 pm
problem that they cannot improve until they do something drastic. >> and the communication problem is due to their incompetence. >> i believe with everything you said with the exception with one thin thing, ezekiel manuel is covering up for dishonesty, you can't keep your doctor period, you can't keep your plan, period, there will be insurance bailouts, period. and emanuel was coming back saying, he didn't mean to say that, he meant to say you can keep it if you pay more. and he was up for re-election at the time. >> i highly doubt that. that they voted on him because of the health plans. but let me make a couple of points if i could. the 18-25-year-olds, 60% said they won't sign up. they don't have to because they
2:06 pm
are on their parent's plan. the problem is they're too expensive, i agree with you. the problem is they are far superior. >> how do you know that, bob? >> psychiatric care is included, down the list of the -- >> because of the bob beckel amendment. >> but bob doesn't worry about the fact that we can't pay for it. i can't wait to pay for all of these items but i kblt afford them, i can't have them. >> there is a cost to having something like this. >> the cast factors into that assessment. >> it is like saying that ferrari is far superior to that chevy volt. we know it. it is ten times more expensive. however if you are selling a plan, the ferrari plan, and you are delivering the chevy volt, that is what you are saying. >> the other thing is that it is true, the competition in some of the marketplaces are beginning to lower rates. you know rates went up 80% out
2:07 pm
of george bush's two terms. >> no response to that. >> i don't think any particular president can be blamed for health care costs rising. that is a complicated mixed of improved technology and legal issues, the insurance piece of it. i can't hear you? i don't know. any way, i will pass since i can't talk well into the microphone. >> i don't disagree with you. the president isn't responsible for that, the insurance companies do, they have been gouging for that for years. why they give insurance companies so much, i don't know. >> you say they gouge. the profits are so slim. and emanuel said more choice is expensive, he's not offering more choice, he is eliminating the choice of americans to -- why are people talking to me? >> i don't know. >> i don't know what is going on. >> nobody is talking to me.
2:08 pm
>> but the point is obama care was about denying choice with a one size fits all plan so you have an old man paying for maternity. but if you are willing to pay for it, you can have the chevy volt. >> i bet your plan hazmat urnity care in it? >> i wish it did. >> i will guarantee you, i will bet you any amount you want, that they fail at the number of young people signing up for obama care now, even what they predict right now, if they drop the number they will still fail because young people will not -- >> you forgot the third shoe. >> young people are then their parents plan. >> bob, if you are putting out $1500 a year in premiums and 6,000 dollars a year in deductibles and that is almost $8,000 a year before you get a
2:09 pm
penny back. how many people out there are going to pay $8,000 a year. >> the young people that are supposed to be healthy aren't supposed to be using it. >> good thing they are not calling it the affordable care act because it is not. and i have something to show you here, the original obama care cheerleader, barbara perry. >> i want to talk to you about a word, a word meant as a d derogatory word, the word meant to ashame, conceived by a group of white men who needed to put themselves above and apart of a black man to render them inferior and defeatful. you all know the word i'm talking about -- obama care. that is right, i said it and i'm not ashamed and neither is president obama. >> and neither is president obama. because listen to this. >> i know people call this law obama care, and that's okay.
2:10 pm
because i do care. >> i know i'm fine with calling it obama care, the president is fine with it. >> obama care. >> obama care. >> and once it is working really well, i guarantee they will not call it obama care. >> you can't make this up. they just hand it to us on a silver platter. >> first, i thought katie was the dumpb perry. and let's talk about the doctors. that is the piece of the puzzle. why did the american medical association back obama care. because they thought they would rather be at the table than on the menu and it turns out they are on the menu. there are the apps and the main course and they are on the menu. why isn't the a ma saying we screwed up, we threw all of the doctors under the ambulance. >> dana? >> the curious thing about her tirade is who came up with romney care or reagan-on im --
2:11 pm
reagan-omics. >> it is not worth much, what she said. >> but she is entertaining. >> i can't call her stupid. i think she is a professor, so she must be smart. but clearly all she's trying to do is get so-- to get some pro-nature out there. >> the pro-vauk commentary comes from you. >> i've been very tame over the last year. >> when kimberly said the republicans are serving it to you on a silver platter, i want to see how they do with the silver platter and given their history, they will figure out a way to turn it into coal. >> meanwhile, independents of america who don't identify with r the
2:12 pm
democratic party, are going to have to deal with more expensive and less quality health care. >> it is not less quality. don't say that. it is not less quality. >> absolutely it is. bob, do you think it is fair that people who don't have approved plans from obama don't get to go to get cancer treatment from a place like sloan kettering, and so rich people can afford to go there but the average person can't go. so how is that better? >> it is perfectly fine with me. >> how about the ipad that will make the decision whether or not somebody elderly gets a hip or just a pain killer. it is there, bob. >> that storm coming across the country too, it is obama care. it is terrible. >> and this storm here is called the a. block followed by thunder into b. and ahead jessie jackson on so-called apartheid in america. and later a violent feud

♪ on something called meet the press, refer and -- reverend jesse jackson said this about mandela. >> even today while we son the skin level of apartheid, the apartheid remains with gaps in poverty and health care and education. we are in the middle of the end of the apartheid story but now it has just changed faces. >> didn't see that coming. using apartheid to describe present day america. in case you noticed i'm not an older black south african, but
2:18 pm
if i were i would be peeved. but as attention getting stunts go, comparing your cause always works. and part of it is his fault. he's aligned himself with leftist ideas that have done little to raise the votes of his brethren and others who do not embrace such assumptions. jackson shows it is time for a new batch of leaders, rejecting the government bloat that has dragged so many blacks and whites down. our black conservatives and libertarians, and they exist, but you only hear about them when they are mocked by liberals black and white. i used apartheid regarding such leaders but i'm not that dumb. so, bob, you are good friends with jesse jackson. you hung out with him. i remember seeing him with you once. was he wrong to use the word

aparthe apartheid. >> well probably in the context that he did. but in this city, blacks and browns, they live in the ghetto and they have bad schools. the health care up there is bad and down here it is pretty good. the fact is we are separated by poor and healthy in this city, as a matter of fact across the country. i wouldn't use the word ahart hide but i would say -- apartheid, but i would say we are separated in that way. >> and what is the government doing to help them? nothing. except maybe some affordable housing. >> and what about the generation of poverty over the policy of decades and when a republican comes forward, like john boehner is a champion of school choice, that could help the parents, the parents able to make choices and it goes nowhere. the earned income tax credit would help single moms trying to
2:20 pm
help their kids. there is also the idea of the private sector -- the private accounts for social security would have helped african-americans more than anyone, but republicans, any time they raise their hand with an idea, they get smacked and called a racist. >> the americaned income tax credit is still there. >> it is. but you can improve upon it so that mothers could make decisions based on their own needs for their kids. >> are you ready for me? >> yes. >> he is doing his whole cause a disservice because he is making a poor argument. because when you look at the reality and open a history book, you see it is the democratic party that has done a disservice to a generation of dprims and others who -- african-americans and others who south africa in poverty to poor communities. because this is getting everyone nowhere. that is what should be addressed

and given a hard look instead of throwing out apartheid and reckless terms like that and comparing it to the united states today. >> but let's keep in mind, he did not accuse republicans of this. the democrats are as complicity in this as the republicans are by ignoring it. but the democrats are complicit in it. and having said that, that doesn't change the fact there are separations between poor and wealthy in this city. >> apartheid. >> no. they live apart from and they don't go to -- >> so it is more function of the economy than it is a forced policy from the government. there aren't militia in the street saying blacks have to go here and the whites have to go here. >> no. >> and if the guy in front of you said he is and is doing nothing to help racism in

in 2005, a team of four navy s.e.a.l.s were on a mission to find a al qaeda leader in the mountains of afghanistan. only one seal made it out alive. his name is marcus lutrell. he made a book called lone survivor and it has been made into a film that will be released this month. he gave an interview about losing his brothers last night on 60 minutes. here he is talking about mike murphy who was posthumously awarded a medal. listen to this. >> i was trying everything i could to get to him. and he started screaming my name. i need help, marcus. it got so intense that i put my weapon down and covered my hears because i couldn't stand to hear him die. they say every man has his breaking point, i never thought

i would find mine. the only wape to break a navy s.e.a.l. is to kill us. but i broke right there. >> he wouldn't have made it out without the help of a afghanistan man who risked his life to help a stranger. >> he has respect for a guest that comes knocking at your door and even if he is in need and in imminent danger, we must protect him. the taliban came down and sat down with me and i said no, i will not hand him over to you. they theld e told me you will -- they told me you will die, your cousins will die, your whole family will die. it is not worth it. give us the american. and i said no, i will protect him until the end. >> we are brothers in blood. we bled together. he could have left me there on the side of the waterfall and let me die. >> and kimberly, last week you had a chance to meet him and his wife as the movie premier was getting ready to be released.
2:41 pm
>> yes. >> and tell us your thoughts about meeting him in person. what was it like? >> well he is an incredibly open person, very honest, answered all of the questions, a number of journalists there. he still today mourns for the loss of his brothers, as he calls them and he maintained a close relationship with mohammed goss lib and he feels the rules of engagement has cost sales and other military their lives and there has been an increase in the strictness of the rules of engagement and they offer in secrecy and cover. you can't go out there and give a calling card -- when you are out there doing a mission, that is a cause. they came along some goat herders, if they would have let them go, they would have been okay. and right after that they were

>> if it is donnelly and not to appease the academic -- >> there it is. >> why is it education on campus is seen as superior as an education in the military. if you listen to the man, it seems he's gained more wisdom and knowledge in his service than 100 ivy league graduates. and the point about rules of engagement, you either wage war ow or you don't. you can't be a little pregnant. you can't wage a little bit of war. when you put those guys in harm's way, i see your point. they are harmless guys, you almost have to get rid of the witnesses. but is there a way to have kept them down while you took off. >> but they are not harmless, because they told. and they might have pulled the trigger as well. >> but the other part of the story, the afghanistan guy that saved him, he lost his cousin
